AEMO report saying 20-25 new gas fired power plants to bridge transition to renewables and close of coal and replace some existing aging gas fired . Hmmm Who would have think it???!!!!

All the political positioning and greenwashing and now gas is essential as other assets are worn out, greened out by carbon considerations and still governments are refusing to allow any funding for energy transition to go to renewal , replacement and outright new gas plants that will 100% be required. How does government expect gas and capital to be allocated and ready when it is restricting the market ?

So look like large energy gap coming and very high energy costs for all Australians due to poor political planning. No way should companies allocate capital with rules not locked in and a guarantee of demand when govt is off promoting excess of "green sources" and possible storage via grants bonus and special pricing with no understanding that all energy storage and generation has a lead time and needs 10 -15 year to demand to justify capital expenditure on development

Everyone will be wondering why there is not gas available when all of a sudden they need it in a couple of years and yet are happy to see dithering governments

Energy users are aware of crunch coming and are planning to leave Australia to countries with consistent policy or prepared to lock in and grandfather policy to attract industry or production . manufacture etc.

Gas plant building boom to fuel renewable revolution, says energy grid chief

The east coast of Australia will need 13 gigawatts of new gas fired electricity generation - the equivalent of building 26 new gas plants - within the next 25 years to back up the rollout of renewables.

The Australian Energy Market Operator’s (AEMO) finding that an extra 13 gigawatts would be needed was contained in its latest energy grid road map, released last week. It also warns that eastern Australia’s gas supply is running so low that emergency diesel fuel supplies would need to be built next to each new gas plant."

"The figure of 26 gas plants is extrapolated from AEMO’s report. Assuming that each plant can generate about 0.5 gigawatts, a total of 26 plants is needed to deliver 13 gigawatts of capacity – a tenfold increase on the current rate of construction given only gas plant to be built in the past decade."
