The % change really helps to locate potential runners. it's how I've been taking momentum trades since the March (aka March of the REITs - fun times!)
About the volume part, it's the parameters is really up to you.
A loose suggestion of 500,000 volume or $500,000 in dollar value traded should solve the problem. i.e. SPT, 344,226 x $2.5 > $500,000. Thus it would not be filtered out.
Don't worry if that's too hard, I'm not familiar with the scanning software that you use.
