Yes the founders of the company were cowboys and paid themselves handsomely. Steve had been a Vice President of Citi. Do you think that a Vice President of Citi comes cheap? I think that he made a mistake getting involved with cowboys but I must admit that if someone offered me $640K to develop a world class resource I would find it difficult to say no.
He was brought aboard to give to company some respect in financial circles but as has been pointed out the company was already in trouble and things didnt get better after they brought Steve aboard or after they sacked him.
