I have been buying and selling shares for about fifteen years. However, my compulsion is not as strong as it used to be. The reason being, I eventually came to the conclusion that the odds are only in my favour, maybe once a decade, so checking the stock market everyday and buying and selling all the time, does not make sense.

If the odds really were in the player's favour, then it would mean that anybody, at any time, buying any which way, could keep putting dollars in and eventually come out with more. However, that is not the case, so it means the odds are less than 50:50, despite what the finance industry would like me to believe.

I cannot argue with the charts that fund managers show you - how their fund has performed X% for X amount of years. However, I will argue as to whether the returns really were in line with the risks that they had to take. Just like the lotto, there are few winners, but the whole purpose is to make the organisers money.
