One of the technical guys (MidDigitalHair or OldGeo) mentioned that volcanic plays light up on seismic in a similar manner to what they look for in oil plays. I think they saw it light up in a 2d, saw a trap structure, shot 3d and just made a mistake. You don't really know until you drill. When they worked out it was a buried volcano it was too late.
