Stockton coal is undoubtedly of very high quality.
However it was subject to the same downturn in HCC prices that other coals experienced and this helped contribute to Solid Energy's demise.
If it was truly unique and irreplaceable for steel making, Solid Energy would have been able to maintain their previous pricing structure through the downturn.
Because of the threat that customers could move to cheaper supplies, Stockton coal price fell along with all other HCCs.
