On hearing the ancient's boastful claim of paternity, the doctor told him a story about an old codger who, mistaking his walking stick for a rifle, thought he had bagged a beaver that someone else had shot. On hearing the story, and knowing a thing or two about walking sticks, the the old man said, “That old codger could not have pumped them bullets into that beaver.” To which the doctor replied, “Exactly.”
