@CharlieShares's comment is itself from an era wherein 'The Church' sponsored mass murder, labelled women as witches and had them burned to death. Some religions still bury women them in pits and permit blokes to stone them to death for daring to expose they've been raped.
Pick a country, pick a point in History including today, pick a religion ... the common theme is they all claim to have a 'God' and that the one claimed by everyone else is a false God. The assumption is that they are God's people [special, unlike everyone else] and they can do whatever they reckon their God wants them to with impunity.
Then there's what goes on beneath the ceremonial robes when the flock leaves vulnerable youngsters in their care - from the missions of Australia's outback to some of our elitist religious schools ... boy oh boy, even funded by government and publicly unaccountable until it reaches our courts when .....
