@822-190 - I did not wish to engage with you, as i know you simply spend all your time on HC watching out for anyone saying negative things about Israel. But I will give it a go, because I am absolutely and definitely pro-Israel, feel it has a right to exist, has done well for itself, but it is also a bastion of Western thought and support (via America and its vested interest) in the Middle East. The geopolitics and wisdom of that is a little beyond my understanding - as the American support has not always been forthcoming, and sometimes it was more sometimes less enthusiastic - probably a matter of who is in charge over there; the American foothold in Israel is both a support for Israel as well as making Israel a target for other powers in the area; it is one of those geographical points which could spark a mass conflagration, endangering the entire Middle East, maybe the world.
Your figures are just guesswork, everyone's is - anyone watching this on TV, which I am assuming is uncensored, realises the desperate situation of the Palestinians.
Yes, we know that Hamas is entrenched in all layers of Palestinian society, I also know and have observed the slow expansionism of Israel, with American religious jews coming in with missionary zeal as new settlers into the border areas of Israel.
A lot of injustice happened in Israel when first settled, but caused by even greater injustice to the Jewish people - I realise all that.
There is also the potential for a greater war - which is probably a concern for the Israeli population, but not - it seems - for its present leaders.
Leaders, as we know from history, always have their own greatness at heart, and never care one iota for 'the people' - 'The People' are useful fools as stepping stones to power, then they can be discarded. To me Netanjahu is a classic example - he needs to remain in power, otherwise he will go to jail. Powerful motivation to keep the bloodshed going - he probably believes he will win this, never mind how many people die.
I am not thoroughly educated in the minutae of this dreadful bloodshed, but simply have had enough of viewing the nightly news with nothing but yet another episode of people searching through a damaged former home or hospital for survivors, crying, injured children, desperate nurses and doctors and mothers and fathers crying over dead and injured children. It needs to stop; I know many Israelis as well as my Jewish friends are wishing for the same thing.
