@MisterC; as with the NT elections at the weekend, in Australia voters have the power to choose the candidate they prefer.

Last time round and against the odds in a blue-ribbon Liberal Party seat that Zali Stegall. In my former blue ribbon seat of Indi voters have repeatedly rejected the Liberal Party candidates and instead returned Cathy McGowan and Helen Haines as independents.

Peter Dutton is NOT contesting Stegall's seat and given the recent problems in the NSW Liberal Party may not even be competent enough to complete the necessary paperwork to lodge a candidate as per AEC rules.

Since they gave Stegall the nod last time round and given the incredible incompetence of Dutton's Liberal Party, I'd say she's a good chance of winning again despite the racism. sexism and misogyny already being whipped up by Murdoch Mouthpieces and the Liberal Party's far right wing rent-a-goons.
