Cam, you talk of HOPE sums up many of the investment styles we see hear on HC. On the mention of HOPE in an operational or investing context takes me back to thoughts of General Gordon Sullivan who was the Chief of Staff of the US army during the 1990's. Probably made him the most important HR Manager in the Western hemisphere at the time, he over saw tremendous change in the way the US Army recruited and trained their people. Anyway he sums everything up in his book "Hope is not a method". Practical application of making something happen rather than hoping something would happen or it would all be OK in the end. I had the pleasure of meeting with him talking with him about 15 years ago. In the end some companies are lucky, but to consistently do well it is about organisations making something happen.

Examples: NWS has made things happen over the years (and got somethings wrong) and FXJ just hopes. You can see the results.
