How about trailing stop losses on whole "portfolio's" (though someone once described my choice of shares as not worthy of the name "portfolio").
Sometimes have this in the back of my mind (once or twice actually written in down) but never fully acted on it yet.
I hold, and not in equal amounts:
ACU, ADU, AMU, APG, AWE, CCE, CMQ, CMS, CPC, CUE, DLS, EBR, EDN, FAR, GTM, HER, HRZ, HTE, HZN, ITC, KBO, MEO, MIK, MTR, MXL, MBX, NZO, OSH, PPP, PRE, PRR, PSA, PCL, ROC, SHG, STO, VCR
... and a few others worth less than $1000 each which I am too embarassed to mention (on account I did not take a stop loss) my trading is haphazard, sell a bit, buy a bit, subscribe a bit, too many stocks but lots to keep ones interest.
Despite not having a plan, activating stop losses, etc etc this we are well in profit from 2000 despite some horrendous tech boom write off's.
Maybe a whole sale clear out is due right now, the "portfolio" is at an all time high and it is making me nervous!
Or as I say maybe write in a portfolio value stop loss which when hit will sell the lot.
Trouble is it would take me all day to get the sell orders on.
