I guess it all depends on what individuals are comfortable with. It also depends a lot on how stop losses are set and at what price. But even the Blue Chips can succumb to long downtrends and some minor adjustments from time to time can improve profitability dramatically over time, even with long term investments.
Opportunity cost also becomes an issue if capital is tied up for long periods in losing positions, thus I would personally rather accept my loss and move on.
Just my opinion.
