I’m more than willing to stop for a bit longer on a road trip to charge up enough to get to where I’m going
There is more to it than that. In regional Oz there are very few fast charge points. We don't have one in my large regional city. The Lady's sister lives 500 K away in a small town so to do the trip in an EV with that range I would need to charge it in my garage 'til 100%, prolly a day or two @ level 1.
Assuming a hot day [aircon running] and at a brisk speed [lonely road, 130 is "normal"] There would be little charge left when I got there. I would need to take over their garage for 4 days and borrow their car for that time. I only intended to stay 3 days anyway.
Obviously I would rent an ICE. What am I doing with an expensive Tesla in the first place?
