putins thinking ......in Georgias case that land was taken for the sake of the very strategic naval base Sevastapol the same , and all that land in the south of Ukraine was taken to connect to Crimea ...all strategic and aimed at projecting russ power in the Black Sea the Donetsk was taken as valuable territory with energy , mineral and agricultural wealth and simply to extend russias borders and influence in the region and as an attemot at showing russ power
putins thinking is strategic and acquisitive ....he looks for what's good,(as he sees it), for russia ....and just takes it !
which is why THE WEST HAVE NOW MARKED A LINE IN THE SAND AND SAID ....NO FURTHER ....and why they don't recognise the validity of lands presently occupied by russia
the fault in putins thinking ,(which also involved taking effective control of Ukraine at very least ....or possibly annexing as a whole), ......was several unanticipated strategic negative outcomes for russia ; 1. Finland and Sweden joining NATO - many negative implications for russia 2. Loss of trade west 3. Failure of russian army 4. strength of Ukrainian resistance 5. degreee of western support for Ukraine 6. the re-awakening and re-invigoration of NATO 7. russian need for dependance on China 8. loss of decades worth of russ military reserves 9.financial weakening of russia 10 exacerbation of russias demographic problem there are others .....
these re all huge and cancel out any small gains russia has made in Ukraine !
