If you got a player contracted for 3 years at a $150k a year and suddenly he is the gun,i don't see a problem with him being paid a little extra until his contact runs out.

The salary cap was designed to stop a team that is supposed to pay 95% of salary cap suddenly find over $1m in it's cap by getting rid of a couple second year players.
