MELBOURNE, Jan 22 Asia Pulse - Owner of the Nifty copper mine in Western Australia, Straits Resources Ltd (ASX:SRL), today reported a 31 per cent rise in revenue for 2001 to $A144 million ($US74.25 million).

Over the December quarter, revenue rose 35 per cent to $A45.3 million ($US23.36 million) on the back an 11 per cent rise in production at Nifty to 5843 tonnes.

Total output from Nifty in 2001 was 22,111 tonnes, up 28 per cent for the year.

"Nifty's ramp up to 25,000 tonnes nameplate capacity was completed during the quarter, which is a major milestone for the company and should provide a further impetus for growth into 2002," Straits chief executive Brian Rear said.
