Dub,
Lenard Poulter's surname may not reflect a strange coincidence, but an inherited talent, as follows:
"Poulter: This interesting and unusual name...is an occupational surname for a poultry dealer, or a breeder of chickens, derived from the Old French term "pouletier, poletier", a derivative of "poule", chicken, from the Latin "pulla", young bird."
In fact, a spelling variant of the surname "Poulter" is "Poulterer".
Perhaps the surname "Puller" is similarly derived from the Latin word "pulla" for young birds, through a talent for (as it might be called) "pulling" young birds? Successful pullers might then tend to hand down their talents, perhaps intrinsically. It's interesting, I think, that pulling today may have lost its genetic purity, as many modern pullers, though retaining an strong interest in young birds, also pursue other vocations, such as politics. There seem to be many pullers in politics.
By contrast, the name "Poulter" does not seem to be especially common, which may be understandable, given that a profession which involves choking chickens many times per day might be very draining, and tend to be pursued in solitude.
Hope this helps
