A legitimate defensive strategy is very much in the ambit of the board. We can’t see who is trading back and forth but the board via its register can. And we can’t see who these nominee companies are holding (potentially accumulating?) for either - the board on the other hand will have a much more informed ‘suspicion’ than we do. The company needs a solid M&A defensive strategy in place if they don’t want to be taken over for peanuts by a shrewd cabal of fundies who are informally supporting an even shrewder acquirer playing a very long and price suppressive game.
