Like Frogkey I avoid "after hour "bids too.

If looking to buy and the futures are pointing down significantly, I'll try to buy early (in first 3/4 hr) as often the market recovers from a big early fall.
Conversely, if the futures are pointing to a big rise for the opening, I will refrain from buying early and wait for later in the day. Like Frogkey, around 2 pm is often good.

Keep an eye on the Dow/S&P futures from about 2pm our time onwards as this is often a good indicator of the direction of the Dow that nite our time and subsequently our market the next day.

Of course, nothing is guaranteed in the sharemarket !!

If looking to sell and there is a big rise expected via the futures, get in early ie in first 3/4 hr.
If there is a decent fall expected on opening, wait until around 2 pm to consider selling as the market often recovers somewhat. Again watch the Dow futures around this time onwards as tomorrow may be a better time to sell into.
