Imo Pharmacies are in a much better position to compete with the supermarkets if they used more of their skills in a free trading environment. Imo the Guild and their member pharmacies wrongly believe they being saved by stopping natural competition but are really holding this sector back.
Priceline have benefited by essentially adding dispensing to their beauty care products business catering mainly for women, so why can't the Supermarkets add dispensing to their services too? Pharmacies have been piggy backing the locations of Coles and Woolworths Supermarkets yet the Supermarkets are not permitted to trade freely by offering prescription services.? Does that make sense to you ? It would be like telling pubs they can't sell fruit juices because takeaway food shops would lose out on business.
We all know the Pharmacists are an important part of the health system however why not just nationalise the pharmacy service and protect them like is done for other public services employees and pay them appropriately?
How can anyone really invest confidently in this sector knowing that a change of government at next election might require a higher donation to keep everyone protected? How can any pharmacists sleep peacefully at night knowing they are being protected by the goodwill of State & Federal politicians ?
They lucky current Minister of Health is a leftie pretending to be a right winger, so he most likely going to agree to roll over the agreements but one day another Health Minister might take heed of Harper & King Reviews and surely there will be some dislocation. How can any business person be happy about that hanging over their business heads?
