    why would anyone drill at hydrostatic in a known gas field. It just beggars belief that you comment is so naive.

    higher mud weights will always be the first barrier to protection for a high pressure gas kick, as the well would first kick or flow at you and you would increase mud weights to initially control the pressures. If you didn’t stop the flow, the casing string and BOP’s would then come into play. In all the drilling operations I have been involved with, we always had some kill mud ready to go if needed. I was lucky both onshore and offshore that it was never needed.

    And as for your earlier comment that the mud weigh can’t be tested. Give me a break. What do you think a mud engineer does all day????

    you really need to give it a rest, as your are clearly out of your depth. Pun intended.
