It was just before the GFC sh*t hit the fan and when the offer came in SRK actually rejected the offer whereas D&C/MAPSA wanted to sell out but SRK blocked it and that's what started the bad blood between both partners.
GFC then fully hit and all majors pulled investment out globally including Xstrata.
Fair to say SRK really farked up. At that time based on this Ann the SP hit a record high of $3 and the Russian Oligarch invested $50mil in SRK around those prices. Rest is history...
