You can compare this here to an Australian train line running through 50 homes which will be compulsorily acquired by the government to build the train line, those stage a sit-in protest and the government is then revealed that they are yet to even compensate these people even though they said they would. Then you find out because of a current affairs show like today/tonight or 60 minutes.
Maybe you're the ignorant one in the situation?
And with such an important infrastructure project I'd think its safe to say there are negotiations currently ongoing resolve the issue (though many wouldn't want money, they want their home back and they will not get it, and they'll continue to disapprove and cause as much havoc as possible, doesn't matter where the global position of the situation is)
