SYDNEY (Dow Jones)--BHP Billiton (BHP) confirmed Friday that 2,052 union workers at its Escondida mine in Chile will resume their functions Saturday, ending an almost one month old strike at the world's biggest copper mine.
The return to work follows an agreement between management and union leaders on a new collective contract for the next 40 months.
The deal is based on a 5% real wage increase plus a 2.5 million peso (UDS$4,650) end of conflict bonus, a CLP6.5 million price bonus and a CLP2 million interest-free loan.
Workers, who overwhelmingly voted in favor of the latest contract offer late Thursday local time, also obtained universal health care coverage and education allowances.
