    Meanwhile the Labor campaign went into polling day still reeling from the effects of would-be Senator Joe Bullock's controversial speech to a Christian group in Perth last November.

    In that speech the Labor candidate said that the Labor party was full of "mad members", that voters were right not to trust Labor, that Tony Abbott could be a good Prime Minister and that he would rather be expelled from the Labor Party than vote in support of gay marriage and abortion.

    He also attacked fellow Labor Senate candidate Louise Pratt for canvassing votes against him
