It's not that you can't short the stock - but you need a broker to support your short bid - and I cannot readily see any brokers prepared to do so ATM. There have been two "ad-hoc" shorts laid in 2013 on 18th Dec (1.2M) and 28th Nov (30k) that one was a bit timid. Both of these were relativly low volume days with slim movements, 1st may have been a test. Check the posters on day prior and those days for a giggle.

I think broker would have second thoughts to sponsor a short request, unless there was a clear overbought opportunity signal such as a few consecutive stratospheric volume and SP rise days. Keep an eye on the Bolies, this slow steady stuff does not play into shorter hands.
