As to cash and share bid straddling the year ends,that might suggest RIO already knew what was in the Budget? Don't think so.
Underpinning the SP with the buy back for a share bid? Why not simply offer a greater proportion of cash in the first place and avoid the buyback mechanism?
To maximise the WMR assets at Olympic Dam requires deep pockets-why then stretch your balance sheet? RIO is not renowned for stretching its balance sheet and has maintained low gearing ratios for many moons, and why at a high point (as perceived by some, not all), in the commodity price cycle?
The saga is in to its eigth month? Surely would have moved sooner.
Way too many illogical questions for this rumour to have legs-sorry.
