Welcome to week end thread.
Big news this week was ASIC issuing a warning to Fininfluencers. ASIC on Monday released a media sheet regarding social media and influencers. Someone may be able to provide the link.
So what are fininfluencers, no not influencers from Finland but influencers promoting financial advice on social media. Twitter, tik tok and instagram are main outlets but we have them on H/C. Influencers have become big business and basically the idea is to flog shares/crypto trading courses to followers. When you consider that a 20 something no training or skills can have 127,000 followers then imagine if they can direct 2000 of them to a related training course or promote a company which gives them free products or shares. On a smaller scale some bird feeders have 30,000 followers with a proportion of those simply buying whatever the influencer posts. So ASIC is finally taking some action, some criticism about going after small fish and what about the big end.
