    A bit of a back of the envelope calculation:

    The tesla power wall will have about 3-4kg of Lithium Carbonate equivalent in the battery.
    If (very big if) Tesla aim for 2 billion units worldwide, eventually.
    That equates to 8 million tons of Lithium carbonate.
    The worldwide yearly production is currently 600,000 tons.
    At that rate it would take 13 years to produce the required lithium, and that assumes all lithium is produced for Tesla.
    Even if a fraction of the 2 billion batteries are made there is a huge market demand for lithium.

    Once the market wakes up to this the price should appreciate.
    What helps is that the battery pack is already in production and not 10 years away.

    This announcement has just caused a spike in the lithium demand.
