The GFC made me feel anxious, regularly and sometimes quite depressed, indicating my emotions weren't developed to the degree they needed to be. These days I use panic selling, like Fukashima, Brexit etc as opportunities to increase returns. But the GFC sure made "men" out of those who survived and if you didn't learn plenty about yourself and group psychology, then you probably weren't in the right profession or went bust. Imagine quality companies, with a strong history of earnings growth, being sold down close-to or below cash backing. This is why many old hams of the market will tell you that fortunes are made in bears - not bulls. My lesson for next time will be to go even harder with the quality companies when they start trading at unsustainably low prices.
