there's a problem there now though - that wasn't there in the past.
In the past - business and hence government was pretty happy to have uneducated, ignorant slaves or very cheap labour.
But, what business hasn't woken up to quite yet is that ---------- it now needs smart people.
This is not the days of men with shovels. These are the days of educated people with keyboards, soft and hard skills --
and whilst business is still reaping profits - it is ONLY reaping profits because it's gone further to short term, bottom line, no thinking of the future mechanisms -
so, we get the Boeing effect. And we get productivity resoundingly and stubbornly stuck
Business also hasn't worked out yet that their profit - their golden nuggets - come from exactly the same place as actual gold nuggets ----------- ie. from a large low grade resource which is concentrated -
and what business misses is that you get MUCH richer if that low grade resource is RICHER, not leaner.
they're yet - in Oz and America at least (probably in the UK as well) to work that one out. Some of Europe got that one a long time back - not all.
tis interesting to notice the difference here between France and it's electricity business - and Australia and it's gas business
My French close associates are bitching about France selling off electricity - but, falling short internally at times and having to buy power from other nations.
Sound like Australia and it's gas?
Well, in a way yes -------- BUT, there's a big big big big difference -
France OWNS it's electricity generation etc - so, when it sells - France gets the bucks for the product
Australia -- the gas is sold off by FOREIGN owners and the PROFIT - heads to the other side of the world and Australia ends up with ------------ ZIP.
THAT, is one hell of a difference.
