Any chance of a third variable being in play? I keep coming back to how the initial mid March surge in shorts coincided with the recent ASIC - Vanguard's ESG Federal Court challenge. Other than the challenge itself and effect the decision could have on the investment landscape the penalty has not yet been published. This could bring Vanguard's 12.3% ownership stake in State Street into play if only as a hedging vehicle. A control and lent securities breakdown of State Street's 143,346,380 also makes interesting reading on exposure spread. Then again - probably way of base. My opinion only of course!
