Andrew Forrest’s Squadron Energy intends to develop several gas power stations across the eastern states, starting in Dubbo, NSW, as part of a multibillion-dollar strategy to build an integrated supply business this decade to sell clean energy to business customers.
The gas plants will provide back-up for a huge expansion of renewable energy generation capacity already planned by Squadron, and chief executive Jason Willoughby said the company aimed to provide about 30 per cent of the build-out required to reach Labor’s 82 per cent renewables target by 2030.
