It's not saying they would be liquidated or near liquidation.
Its saying if they did liquidate their unsecured debt is near junk.
There have been many good companies that have good assets with debt issues.
The debt is so bad there wouldn't be enough cash to cover unsecured debt if they were liquidated.
If I am wrong and the world enters another depression like the 1930s then BHP will have issues that could see it broken up. If this goes deeper than a need for capital raising.
