G'day mudguts, (I don't feel comfortable addressing someone in that way!)
I don't understand this line.
"Just imagine how much the price would go up if someone wanted a 5% stake, for example, and there was only 270 Mil shares on issue!"
My answer would have been - exactly the same. What is the point or have I missed it?
A consolidation doesn't change market cap. ----------------------------- Of course the market cap is the most important issue and this would not change. My way of thinking is that if there are less shares issued then there would be less shares traded everyday and therefor much harder to manipulate. Buying and selling to yourself to create a 'false market' to scare smaller holders into thinking that the price is falling is what has been happing over the past few months. I just think that with less holders there is a lesser chance of this type of manipulation working.
Ben. P.S talk of a dividend is a bit premature. There is A LOT of water to go under the bridge yet and in my view the amount of water is substantially increased given the events of the past week (CR).
