Perhaps what is more clearer is that Intec was not looking at getting a slice of the Young nickel and cobalt pie, but wanted in on Jervois' own hydromet process which is still in its infancy.

Jervois wants to produce 60,000 tonnes of nickel a year (a big project in the nickel world) at Young along with 6000 tonnes of cobalt concentrate.

The potential has attracted the attention of Chinese parties, with representatives of the Guangdong provincial government expecting to visit the site with their own laboratory kits sometime later this month or in April pending a decision on if it will buy into the dream.


It is understood Jervois has had some preliminary success in developing the hydromet process at what is called a bench scale - the point at which the process can be moved out of the research laboratory with some degree of certainty.

More testing will be done on a bigger scale, possibly by the CSIRO in Perth sometime soon.
