Last week there was a report of the LIT brine miners (SQM and ALB ) experiencing problems with the indigenous population and environmental laws in Chile. The implication is that productivity may be unreliable until these difficult issues are resolved.
Hard rock miners like PLS do not experience these issues and it appears the market is anticipating PLS et al will be able to achieve a higher price for their product by being a reliable supplier.
Extrapolating this issue. If you spent many millions building a LIT battery plant, can you afford to have erratic productivity because the supplier of your raw material is unable to supply material because of ongoing disputes? Secondly, what would happen if your supply to end-users was then unreliable? Tesla et al will not be hanging around waiting for you to sort out your problem.
