    dunno, the fed is injecting $38B into buying mortgage backed securities. They probably told the banks they did not want any of that sub prime rubbish, only the good stuff. The banks may have said yeah it's all packaged up and AA. The Fed gets the printing press rolling (well it never stopped) buys the sec and the bank takes the money wipes the sweat from their brow, straight into the vault. Phew. All good. The us consumer now owns the debt. Are we in Oz also going buy this stuff via the Reserve Bank?
