One perspective I have heard on Obamas win was that he didn't change a lot of peoples votes, he mobilised marginal groups and the under 30's to vote.
This vote delivered for the democratic machine, senators, congressmen, governors etc.
His power base is the internet and $5 and $10 donations from mom and dads.
To compete republicans are going to have to follow the money.
Their moving fast and experimenting eg. a populist vp Palin.
The republican credit card is maxed out.
Holding power anywhere is going to be difficult, in the near term what rewards can they offer for loyalty?
So he will get some change, protectionism?
