I checked your link Zonetrader, and it was most informative. It is obviously open to any state to give 12 month notice to terminate its agreement to the convention. Contrary to some alp responders to this forum, who are simply operating on a party inspired autopilot, a failed government with a failed prime minister could make such a decision if it chose to do so.
Withdrawal from the convention would not result in further loss of support. It looks like the current greatly reduced number of alp supporters is incapable of independant thought, but those SHE has lost and perhaps some others, might find the alp slightly more attractive following hard immigration decisions.
Of course it is a hard call, to back out after 60 years, and I hope a new conservative government, this year or next, might find the courage to do what the socialists cannot.
I accept that Australia is a multicultural country that has benefitted from the contributiion of many immigrants. It is just that enough is enough. Australia should put itself in a position to decide who comes and who stays, and under what conditions.
