The top end of Au doesn't use much electricity and it's really distributed. Darwin, Alice, a mine here and there. While Singapore uses heaps. 6M ppl in one place, largely air conditioned.
But on that issue, there are lots of big cities in Indonesia and the cable would go near them first. Population of Java is 150 million and that's likely to be one grid to plug into.
It's a mute point now though.
