Yes Janet did ask that question and Howard defended his decision to go into Iraq based upon the best evidence at the time, but said he was embarrassed that no weapons of mass destruction were found. He dismissed the notion that Bush made up the excuses to go to war and stated that accusations of that nature were a myth, or words to that effect.
I think you will find it was Labor that has been more flippant with immigration policy from the Whitlam years on.
John Howard was a strong leader and a very driven, committed Australian. I believe Tony Abbott is of the same strong mould.
