I actually hated Howard for a long time because he was such a mean conniving little bugger and his missus had greed and need dripping out of every claw . I did however know that he always had intellect.
It's actually only in hindsight that anything really gets judged in life . In hindsight he made a couple of blues but in the grander scheme he left this country a lot better off than before he started. It only took a year or two to undo his good work but I guess he's now really having the last laugh and that death adder of a missus of his will be really dining out on it.
My views of him changed when he took on the gun lobby . That took guts ,he stared them down and changed this country for the better on that issue.
I don't miss him at all .he's annoying ,but in the fullness of time he will be judged a success ,unusual for a politician ,especially for one who never had any sustaining popularity
