I agree to an extent about the inextricable movement towards super cities, but here are, and will be countervailing forces. It seems likely that technology will make a significant section of the population unemployed or under-employed. I could see a trend where many of these people retreat to a semi-subsistence, communal type of life with only limited engagement with the wider economy. Technology would enable them to engage and contribute quite easily where it benefited them doing so.
