Mogga thanks for the reply - I also am a little 'on the other side' - having two daughters who are food faddist from way back, including the one with cancer.
I am myself pretty robust, nothing seems to 'happen' to me, except when I am emotionally down, then I get sick - can eat anything, but have become fussier as I get older.
Sometimes, before putting a delicious morsel in your mouth, it's probably a good idea to think: 'do I really need this? is it going to interact with perhaps the wine etc. I have been drinking?' or 'will it settle on my hips, or worse cloak heart and liver in fat?' or 'do damage to my lungs?'- so a bit of mindfulness is creeping in and it should apply to any 'habit' whether it's drinking too much, or smoking etc (for the guys) or eating that extra chocolate, chip or steak.
I agree with the billions of dollars 'industry' view which you have of cancer research - however, someone, somewhere, maybe even some of the financial beneficiaries of that industry will have a beloved relative dying from cancer, and that is going to speed things up. I believe we are very close - and yes, we will find it in nature, as we have always found our remedies there.
Queensland is amazing, most likely due to its climate and I have a view of it being full of rich jungle soils (which is most likely incorrect) which bring forth amazing plants.
