    back to the main premise of the original questions; there's a report called the fat cat report that highlights the best (and) worst managed funds and super funds by performance and fees across multiple years. I haven't looked at it thoroughly, so do your due diligence but it looked good to me at the time. an option for your son could be to pick one of the better funds listed (and make sure he's not paying insurance!).
