If your son is studying full time at one of the top universities, he would be well advised to devote all his time to achieving the highest grades he can. At this point, he has never experienced university life at all so despite him calculating how much money he can earn each year, his focus should be something quite different. If I was giving him advice, I'd tell him about the many many years ahead of him to earn money and tell him to focus on the unique time of his life that the next few years represent.

I am an ex-teacher and past academic employee of a Melbourne university. If he has been given a university place in a mickey mouse university, well he may as well focus on his $1,000 pa superannuation earnings, lol. His degree will be worth close to, if not exactly, nothing.
