    Well what are you guys going to say when people retire with nothing at all? Bail them out?? Without superannuation being forced on people the average joe saves very little at all and at least the rules make it hard for people to blow it along the way.

    If anything pensions are underfunded and people dont have much provided for retirement at present so its difficult to envisage Australia without mandatory super.

    Unless of course you like see old people digging through bins and begging by the roadside like you do in Russia and Asia???

    Superannuation was one thing Keating got very right and Howard added to it by not stuffing it up. God knows what Swan and his turkeys have planned for it.

    What I fear in super is that subsequant governments will run out of options to tax and start levying taxes on superannuation funds. For that specific reason I did not take the opportunity to put the lump sum when available a couple of years ago.
