    Thanks both Hevlet and Tibbs

I've spent the last few days having a good look at Netwealth and esuperfund (appreciate your previous posts on theses as well) so I am pretty open minded about all the options.

I do believe that in general leaving your funds entirely at the control of any industry or retail fund predisposes, if not guarantees, one to mediocrity in returns.

Whilst researching (note some good non-HC forums on the subject as well) I kept asking why one couldn't have the best of both worlds! Hevlet, after I posted my searching did come up with Australian Super, the following is an article for last month

    http://www.theaustralian.com.au/business/super-punters-will-be-able-to-trade-in-stocks-in-alternative-diy-fund/story-e6frg8zx-1225969178824

So they will also supposedly become more flexible over time as well (allowing ASX 300 investments).

Given my general investment model that I want with my super, (probably 10-20% cash, 30-40% handpicked value managers (to address the fact I can't expect to research everything myself and to add a level of diversity), and 40-50% direct shares that I have researched) my general views on the 3 options (which are not set in concrete!) are

esuperfund, the way to go if I went full SMSF, with the reservations being that I would need a trustee company (the sensible way to go IMO) to setup (another $600) and limitations / clunkiness of the Comsec / ANZ V2 platform (issues with companies receiving full interest rates in the ANZ V2 account). Some conflicting commentry regarding the promtness of service.

netWealth, some limitations (5% only outside ASX 200), my funds are effectively out of my personal control (as with a industry / retail fund I know) and not a great deal in the fund management category I would like)

Australian Super (pending further research), a blend that covers my investment requirements without the extra cost of SMSF and with a gretaer level of security to netWealth (just my feeling). However, the clunkiness of the share trading platform is something to be fully aware of.....

Of course, I may well decide to go all 3.....why the heck not :-)

    Thanks againg for your replies....
